1 September: Get ready to vote at the NSW Local Council Elections

NSW Local Council Elections are on Saturday, 9 September 2017. 46 of the 128 councils across NSW are going to the polls to decide who will represent them for the next three years. With election day fast approaching here’s what people need to know.

On election day

Polling places are open from 8am to 6pm. For the location of the polling places for your area visit the website or call us.

Know your candidates

For a list of candidates for your council visit the website or call us.

Early voting options

If you can't vote on election day you can vote early at you local pre-poll voting centres. Pre-poll voting is available until 6pm Friday, 8 September. For locations visit the website or call us.

People who wish to apply for a postal vote should act now. Postal vote applications must be received by 5pm Monday, 4 September. You can apply for a postal vote online or by calling us.

Voting is compulsory for everyone enrolled in areas having elections. Fines apply for not voting.

Maitland council is conducting its own election. Enquiries should be directed to the council. Election funding enquiries for all councils should be directed to the NSW Electoral Commission.
